Spanky's

So it's not technically Tuesday yet. But it's late Monday night, which in my world can mean a lot of things. Mostly it means tomorrow will be very long owing to my lack of sleep. Of all the things I do a bad job at, I think Math and Sleeping are my top two. Sports would probably be number three.
But now I am diverging from my topic that I was going to write about: Spanky's
Spanky's is a little driving academy behind the Burger King here in Spring Hill Tennessee. But it's also home to LAVA. LAVA is a smallish group of teens that get together twice a month and do awesome stuff. I do believe it's the best club this side of the Mason Dixon line. Mostly it has to do with the arts and God. (which are two of my favorite things in the whole world.)
The word LAVA comes from Love, Availability, Vulnerability, and Artistry. So, we are a bunch of artists that are completely available and vulnerable and hyped up on loving people. Sounds like a blast, right? One week out of every month we get together and talk about the love and art that is going on in the world. We read poetry, read bible verses, talk about relationships, do an acting gig, tell jokes, eat food, watch youtube videos, laugh a lot, and mostly have fun. Then, later on in the month we all show up at Spanky's and organize our "Spanky's Double Dog Dare You Comedy and Music Jam!" Yeah, it has a long name...but it's awesome.
We dress up in wacky wardrobe, we get all excited, assign sections, rehearse a few things, set up sound equipment and lights, and then we're off.
Most of it is improvisation. The lights go up and whoever is on stage will act out a comedy scene, We answer bizarre questions from the audience, give advice on strange ailments, sing a song about an impromptu subject (I had to sing about Pajamas)and perform skits (me and Laura did a bizarre 30 second movie review of Star Wars). Pretty much anything that's funny, we do it. We even had a PB sandwich eating contest last week. Sounds like the funnest thing since pizza, right? Right.
The coolest thing about it is, if you are gonna come, you have to bring a canned food item for a food shelter that we help out. Isn't that cool?? YEAH!
So head on over at 7:20 March 14th! That's out next performance...and it's gonna rock. As always.

BIRTHDAYS! Brett Mullens is 17. And very happy about it. Christine Lamp turned 15, And my baby Raquel is 16! Happy birthday everybody...
