Murder in the Park Fran Finch Cozy Mystery Book 1 edition by Ivy McAllister Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I received a free advanced review copy from Fairchild Cozy Mysteries at my request. I voluntarily chose to review; this is my honest review.
This book fits the cozy mystery niche beautifully. It is a short and easy read with a cast of characters that are definitely easy to distinguish one from another. It is a clean read and delightful in spots.
The team of Ivy McAlliter write well together; the tale flows smoothly and there are plenty of suspects from which to choose as the murderer. Red herrings abound; read carefully or you will be led astray!
A good read, supported by a nice cozy style of writing, makes this book a great candidate for cozy mystery fans! Thumbs up from me!
Let's begin with what I didn't like about the book (most of which are picky little things that don't affect the actual quality of the book)
- some of the characters needed more depth
- I would have liked to have read a little more about what goes into party planning especially one of this magnitude
- did she ever get paid for this party
- a bit too easy to figure out the killer
What I did like about this book is pretty much everything really. It was clean. There was no sex, cursing, nudity, drug use/abuse, or anything else a reader might find offensive. I sincerely hope that another book is being written because I'd read it in a skinny minute and I will recommend this book to my friends.
I started out reading this thinking that is was going to be a fairly standard cozy mystery, but I was pleasantly surprised when the murder culprit was revealed, it was the last person I thought it was going to be, well done to the author!
The book starts off quite slowly, and it it is well underway before the murder happens, at first I thought that this was a problem, but I think that overall, the scene setting was crucial to pointing the reader in the wrong direction and didn't matter.
There are some very amusing eccentric characters to provide a colourful backdrop to the story, making this a very enjoyable read. I am looking forward to the next books in the series.
I debated between 3 and 4 stars primarily because this book got off to a very slow start with too many unnecessary details. I also found several interactions between Fran and Emily (e.g. sticking their tongues out at one another) to be childish, unrealistic and annoying.
That being said this book proved to be surprisingly entertaining. It's well written with fairly likeable characters and enough twists in the story line to keep readers interested. There's certainly potential for additional books in this series, and I hope this author will continue to tell the stories of her characters.
I requested and received an Advance Reader Copy of this book. My review is voluntary, and the opinions my own.
Gotta love a great cozy!! I received a free advanced review copy from Fairchild Cozy Mysteries at my request. I voluntarily chose to review; this is my honest review.
I enjoyed reading it and who did it surprised me! I would read other books written by this same author.
A good mystery.
So many people would have liked the person dead. Who benefits the most? Or is that the determining factor?
I'll be interested to see how the main character develops in later stories. She's a bit "green" right now and needs a bit of mental polish.
